Volunteer Job Descriptions

 

C2C Courier Needed

We are looking for a volunteer to pick up bags of donations from Cradles to Crayons at their warehouse in Brighton and drive them to our office near South Station. Our orders consist of 12-15 medium-large plastic bags full of toys and clothes, and we normally place an order 1-2 times per month.

Volunteer would ideally have their own car, but if not, we may be able to give you access to a Zipcar. Volunteer needs valid driver's license.

Reception:

Volunteer Office Assistant Position

 

We are looking for volunteers to work two or more four-hour shifts per week in the Reception area.  The hours would be in the mornings or afternoons (within the hours of 9am-5pm), Monday through Friday.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Assume main coverage of reception area and the responsibilities connected with this coverage in collaboration with other appropriate staff, including welcoming and assisting clients and answering the phone throughout the day
  • Use an online database to identify existing clients and enter new clients
  • Assist in managing intra-office systems of communications, procedures, file management, record keeping, phones, computers, etc.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Operations and other staff for special projects and as needed

 

Qualifications include:

 

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Comfort with using basic operations in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and requests simultaneously
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not necessary

 

 

Prevention:

Prevention Volunteer

 

We are looking for a volunteer to work two to three shifts per week in Homelessness Prevention Services. Shifts may last, depending on availability, from two to four hours.  The hours can be in the mornings or afternoons within the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain phone records and database for Prevention Hotline.
  • Conduct initial phone screenings for families requesting rental assistance or other services to prevent eviction and homelessness.
  • Become familiar with prevention resources for homeless families in the Greater Boston area for use in referring and advising families.
  • Provide administrative support to the Prevention Team.

 

Qualifications Include:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and requests simultaneously
  • Comfort with using basic operations in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software
  • Ability to speak Spanish is helpful, but not necessary
