Travelers Aid Family Services Thanks Donors to Columbia Road House

On May 24, 2007 Travelers Aid Family Services hosted an awards ceremony to show our appreciation to the major contributors of the TAFS Homes: Columbia Road project. Thanks to the generosity of these donors, this project raised nearly $100,000 in grant awards to help offset the purchase and renovation of the property. We would like to thank the following for their donations :

In addition to these grants, The Lawrence Model Lodging Houses Trust also supplied a $50,000 forgivable loan/grant, which went far to make this project a reality and Eastern Bank arranged financing.

Beyond the financial contributions, in-kind donations were also numerous. KeySpan Energy donated and installed three new furnaces and water heaters for the three units of affordable housing, Boyle & Chase donated new locks and door hardware and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP donated their legal services.

The three units were also largely furnished through in-kind donations, thanks to the following groups:

CORT Putnam Furniture and Kendra Larson                           Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, including

                                                                                                               Dorothy Brown and Rebecca Epstein

The McCormack Firm and its Employees,                                                 Betsy Feldman

                      including Claire Marie Wheeler

Decore Upholstery

Gentle Giant Moving Company

Trinity Church in Boston

The generosity of everyone listed above is a testament to the need for more affordable housing in Boston. Thanks to their contributions, on May 5th three formerly homeless families moved into their new apartments and continued to move forward in creating a stable, healthy and happy life for themselves and their children.
