Scattered Site Family Emergency Shelter
For families that need longer-term shelter to address underlying issues that threaten their housing stability, Travelers Aid Family Services provides transitional shelter in forty-five neighborhood apartments funded by the Department of Transitional Assistance.
Caseworkers and housing search professionals from our staff work with the families to formulate individualized plans to help them move into permanent, affordable housing. Parents participate in workshops on issues like managing finances and budgeting, parenting, relations with school, community, family, landlords, and employers. Once a family finds an apartment, Travelers Aid Family Services can provide moving assistance and maintains support services to the family for at least a year.
In the last fiscal year, the Scattered Site Family Emergency Shelter program provided transitional housing for 83 families which included 189 children in 45 neighborhood apartments.
To qualify for Scattered Site Transitional Family Shelter, a family must be referred by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).
