- Travelers Aid Family Services is Holding an Open House! On May 22, 2008 from 3 to 7, Travelers Aid Family Services is opening its newest units of permanent affordable housing. Click Here to learn more.
- Travelers Aid Family Services' Board of Directors elects its newest member: Michael McCormack! At its most recent meeting, the TAFS Board of Directors increased its size to 15 members with the election of Boston attorney and long time supporter Michael McCormack. Michael is the principal at The McCormack Firm, LLC, where he heads the Firm's Litigation Practice Group. A Boston native, Michael graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and obtained his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1972. Since that time, he has served the public with distinction in several capacities, including as an At-Large Member of the Boston City Council for five terms, beginning in 1981. Prior to his election to the Board, Michael has been a generous supporter of the mission of Travelers Aid Family Services, most notably serving as Chair of its Holiday Event Reception Committee which raised a record $50,000 last December.

- Travelers Aid Family Services purchases property in East Boston to be used as permanent affordable housing for homeless families! Click Here to learn more.
- Travelers Aid Family Services holds Fifth Annual Holiday Reception and raises $50,000 to support its programs for homeless and at-risk families. Click Here to learn more.
- Working in conjunction with the City of Boston and the Fannie Mae Foundation, Travelers Aid Family Services holds Awareness Event; Voices of Hope: A Dialogue With Homeless Families in Boston. On November 17, 2007, members of Travelers Aid Family Services staff, Board of Directors, homeless and formerly homeless parents, and volunteers met at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Over breakfast, an open forum was held to educate all members involved about the concerns and needs of homeless families as well as positive steps that can be taken to assist homeless families as they work towards re-entering permanent housing.
- Travelers Aid Family Services Honors Staff at Third Annual Appreciation Luncheon. On November 13, 2007 Travelers Aid Family Services' Board of Directors and staff met to recognize the agency's achievements over the last year as well as honor two staff members who made outstanding contributions to the agency.

The Raiffa Award is given to a staff member selected by their peers who has demonstrated excellence in the quality of his or her casework. The award acknowledges the sensitivity and case management skills displayed in working with clients as well as the leadership and teamwork provided within the agency.

The Hunt Award is given to a staff member selected by the Board of Directors and acknowledges a colleague's overall achievements and how those achievements exemplify the Travelers Aid vision to create a community without homelessness; a community in which every adult and child in Greater Boston has a safe, stable and secure home.
- CORT Putnam Furniture Holds Charity Casino Night on Behalf of Travelers Aid Family Services. Held as an appreciation event for their customers, CORT Putnam Furniture designated Travelers Aid Family Services as the recipient of a portion of the proceeds from this event. CORT staff and customers came together for an exciting evening, resulting in over $2,000 in donations to Travelers Aid.

- Travelers Aid Family Services is awarded a grant from Mt. Washington Bank! Given through its Charitable Foundation, Mt. Washington Bank has awarded the TAFS Homes program a $1,500 grant for use in its affordable housing units on Columbia Road. Mt. Washington Bank supports agencies in their community that have a focus on social services, education, youth and the arts. Travelers Aid Family Services is excited to partner with them.

Working in conjunction with Community Work Services, on July 1, 2007 Travelers Aid Family Services expanded its Continuum of Care and created a new position; Employment Specialist. This staff member collaborates with CWS’ At Your Service program, which prepares individuals for careers within the hotel and hospitality industry through a ten week job training program that includes visits to area hotels, job shadowing and other interactive tools. The Employment Specialist works with Case Managers in our transitional to permanent housing programs with the goal of helping these underemployed as well as unemployed parents attain the skills necessary so that they can either achieve employment or become skilled for more gainful employment as part of the process necessary to regain their self-sufficiency.
- Travelers Aid Family Services has been awarded a grant from the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley of $58,815 as part of its Housing First Initiative to crate a new position; Housing Developer. The Housing Developer will work within the TAFS Homes Program to develop new affordable housing designed exclusively to benefit homeless families, similar to our first three units which opened on May 15th in Dorchester.
