December 2006 Holiday Reception On December 13th, 2006, Travelers Aid Family Services held its Fourth Annual Holiday Reception. The event raised more than $40,000, making it the agency's most successful holiday reception to date. All of the proceeds will go towards Travelers Aid's Housing and Shelter programs. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino returned as the event's featured speaker. Mayor Menino offered an encouraging speech on behalf of the services that Travelers Aid provides for homeless and at-risk families, giving hope that the issue of family homelessness will be solved in our time. Another highlight of the Reception was the announcement of Travelers Aid Family Services newest program, TAFS Homes. Travelers Aid established this program to create more affordable housing for low-income families in and around Boston. Executive Director Richard Ring reported that the agency had recently purchased a three family home in Dorchester which will be used as its first affordable housing units for low-income homeless and recently homeless families.
